What to do in the midst of stifling darkness- Isaiah 60:1-2

My blog post today is influenced by the things happening in my dear country Nigeria. Many of us have worked hard, prayed hard, trusted hard for an improved Nigeria. More than ever in the history of the country, I witnessed such an avalanche of energy and unity amongst many citizens especially amongst the younger citizens of the country who may be away or in the country. I was glued to different forms of media trying to stay abreast of things happening with the elections and I could feel the ray of hope beaming through Nigerians. The hope, joy, optimism, faith for a great Nigeria was too evident over the weekend. Only for darkness to begin to show its ugly head in the midst to bring discouragement and defeat amongst us. I began to see the hope dwindle and I somewhat began to slightly doubt but I thank God for men of faith that God has raised in this generation.

I joined the #Hallelujah challenge hosted by pastor Nathaniel Bassey and more than ever it was such a blessing! Minister Victoria Orenze ministered and the whole atmosphere shifted, oh I prayed!!! God bless minister Orenze. As I worshipped, prayed and listened to pastor Nath speak God’s word, my faith had no choice but to rise above all doubts or fear. You should have your dose of blessings here as well, I promise that you would be blessed as you tune in.

Right now, it seems like the light was prevailing only for darkness to seem to want to overtake the light of God in Nigeria but the word of God which is the absolute truth says that light shines in darkness and darkness has not overcome it- John 1:5. Even more so, God tells us that although gross darkness would cover the earth, He will arise over you(Nigeria),And His glory will be seen upon you(Nigeria)- Isaiah 60:2

Therefore, I choose to stand on the word of God concerning Nigeria regardless of what may seem to be playing out right now. You may feel discouraged and may start to doubt that anything good may come out of Nigeria, that is not true! If the dead and dry bones in the valley of Israel could start to live again, then Nigeria will definitely thrive again! More significant is the fact that the dry bones were pictorial/prophetic representation of Israel’s plight at the time- dry and dead. And the way out of them was through the confession of prophet Ezekiel’s mouth backed up by the spirit of God- Ezekiel 37:1-16. Prophet Ezekiel did not exactly know what to do with the dry bones until God told Him to speak over them all. As he spoke over those dry bones, they began to live – this chapter of the bible points us to:

  • the potency of the word of God,
  • the word of our mouth
  • and the spirit of God. We Christians have so much power at our disposal and more than ever, we should decide to utilize them all in this moment going forward. We possess
  • the word of God,
  • the spirit of God lives inside of us
  • and our mouths and we should these weapons to our advantage in these times that we live in.

As I wrap up this blog post, Isaiah 60:1 tells us to Arise and shine for the light of God is come upon us and His glory is risen upon us. We have our roles to play in shining the light of God on earth. If we must travail in the place of prayer, by all means do! If we must worship our way into victory, by all means do! If we must confess and profess our way into victory, please do! Let us stay sensitive to the spirit of the Lord and march on as He leads us into the light filled Nigeria we desire. 🙂
