There is More to Life than worrying – Luke 12:22-23

Earlier in the previous week, I was thinking to myself how life may seem to be a rollercoaster of unending milestones to surmount. Like as you are praising God for one victory, another mountain rears its ugly head from nowhere. This mountain may come in different forms from getting a new job, to earning more, to getting married, to having children, to having enough to take care of these children, to raising these children in the way of the Lord and it just seems to go and on. But interestingly, the bible tells us that life is a lot more than all of these. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing Luke 12:23. As I read this particular verse during the week, I could not help but ask the Lord – “so what is this life?”. What exactly is this life all about? My answer was right there staring at me in Luke verse 31 – This life is all about seeking God’s kingdom while He takes care of us. Before I continue with my exegesis of God’s word, I’d like to point out that it is great to have goals to have a good life here on earth, It is great to work hard to earn a good living and all of that. What isn’t great is when we idolize these things till the extent that we become anxious and agitated when we do not have them. God says to us that nations of the world seek after these things but our heavenly father knows that we need them and He got us – Luke 12:30.

Now back to what this life is all about; seeking God’s kingdom is all that this life is about. A quick journey back to Eden, the perfect space on which God made and put man. It was more or less an extension of God’s kingdom where God expected man to be about His business – fellowshipping with God, tending and nurturing all of the great things God had committed to man. God literally made all provision for food and water for man, while there was no need for clothing in Eden. This is exactly the perfect and ideal life God has designed for us, void of worries, anxiety for these minute things.

More-so, God has made everyone of us with our hearts filled with eternity – Ecclesiastes 3:11. This is a pointer to the fact that our hearts just may never be satisfied with the fickle things that exist on this earth, rather all things of eternal value can satisfy us. And that is another thing that this life is all about – storing up our eternal treasure in heaven that does not fail, neither can any thief steal from nor moths destroy anything there.

Lastly, a close look and examination at the lives of the disciples of old – we never read about them engulfed in worries or anxiety about food, clothes, money and the cares of life. They were more or less consumed with God’s kingdom come on earth while they left their needs and cares in God’s hands. And they lied fulfilled and successful lives, impacting lives and winning souls for the kingdom of God.

As I wrap up this blog post, I would like to ask you this one question that Jesus asked His disciples and He is asking you dear friend who may be worrying about life. How many of you can add one cubit to your stature by worrying?- Luke 12:25. I am yet to meet a man or woman, neither have I heard any testimony where the individual said that that their situation changed by worrying. But over and over, I have heard testimonies of people who got answers to their prayers as they sought God’s kingdom. So my dear friend, I encourage you to quit worrying and switch to seeking God’s kingdom, switch to seeking God’s face, switch to seeking intimacy with the Lord. I can for one attest to the satisfaction of drinking from God’s well of salvation.
