My Personal Reminder – The Holy Spirit

My Calendar application.

I really cannot believe how many things I get to do all at once in this season of my life. I legit sometimes stop and just wonder, where comest all these strength, Lord?! I am thankful to God for the strength to do all of these at once because humanly speaking- I just cannot! Something else that I am also particularly thankful for is my calendar application; it helps me to track things I have to do as well as remind me of deadlines I need to meet because, in the midst of all the busyness, there is the tendency to forget so many things.

Similarly, in my faith walk with Jesus, there is the tendency to forget things as I run and this is where my personal reminder similar to my reminder app comes in. His name is the Holy Spirit, I am particularly so thankful for Him this week because He brought to my remembrance this week the core of my faith.

LOL! So I was holding a grudge all week long, I wasn’t sure how to handle it so I was just quietly observing to see how things went. This grudge was definitely holding me back because it was affecting my countenance towards the parties involved. In my head, I was trying my best to follow peace with all men by not blasting out how exactly I felt but on the inside, I was mad at them. The whole mix was just bad for my spiritual health. The Holy Spirit saw this, knew this, and called me to order.

This is how:

On Wednesday night, as I went back home from mid-week service, the chorus to a song on my playlist that I haven’t exactly listened to in a second popped up in my head. It went on all through that evening, up until the next day and even Friday. I listened to it all day on Thursday and all evening on Friday. But I couldn’t help but ponder why the song kept coming back to me; I sensed the Holy Spirit was trying to tell me something, so I had a conversation with Him on Friday evening.

The chorus of the song goes thus: He is coming back, Jesus is coming back!

Me: What you trying to tell me, Lord?

Me: Are you coming back soon?

Holy Spirit: of course! I am but that is for the Father to know & for you to stay ready. If Jesus came today, Are you ready?

Realizing the answer to this question given that I was holding a grudge at that moment. I repented, let go of the grudge, and forgave these people I was mad at. This will not be the death of me, I said to myself! A silly grudge will not take me to hellfire in Jesus’ name, I said.

That said, I’d like to share with you the things that I learned from my experience this past week:

It is Salient to feed your spirit with wholesome, Godly content because the Holy Spirit will remind us of things we have heard or learned: The word of God tells us in John 14:26 how God will give us an advocate, teacher, and reminder in the person of the Holy Spirit. It is written that the Holy Spirit will remind us of the things that God has told us. The keyword for me here is told us. God tells us things through His word, anointed men & women, sermons, spirit-filled songs & hymns, and so on. That said, the Holy Spirit will not teach or remind us of things we have not heard, read, or learned, it is the things that we have been told, things stored up in our spirit that He would remind us of. Imagine if all I had been consuming were unwholesome and ungodly content, there is no way He would have reminded me of God’s word – the second coming of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:17, Revelation 22: 12-13 . By this reminder, I was able to put myself in order and get rid of all forms of bitterness, spite that could have translated into something monstrous.

God is Unlimited in the ways He speaks: Yet again, I am reminded of how awesome God is and how is able to use numerous ways to speak to His children. The week before this, it was through the testimony of an ex-drug addict and this week it is through a song on my playlist. Can we give God some praise!

Take Time out to have conversations with the Holy Spirit: So the Holy Spirit kept speaking to me through the reoccurring tune in my Spirit but I did not get the full message until I engaged Him until I had the conversation with Him. The Holy Spirit in our lives isn’t some trophy to be hanged on the shelves of our lives, He is God’s gift to us to be maximally utilized.

So I hope and I pray that you and I keep feeding our Spirit with wholesome and Godly content that the Holy Spirit may keep reminding us of these things in Jesus name,

Amen.
