Intimacy with God with the help of the Holy Spirit.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy spirit be with us all.

II Corinthians 13:14

My name is Abimbola Ayodele, for as many of you as do not know, I am Christian,Nigerian and Yoruba. 🙂

I said Yes to Jesus in May 2016 and I have been living my life of faith in Christ Jesus for the past four years. To say it is amazing is an understatement! Words can not start to describe how beautiful it is to walk, talk and be friends with the one who knows and holds the future. I do invite you to a beautiful walk with my friend Jesus, He wants to be friends with you as well.:)

The one who has done, who does and will keep doing great things.

I have written about Intimacy with God more than once on here which I think you should check them out here & here.

When we say yes to Jesus, become baptized in His name and in water, there is a measure of the Holy Spirit that comes into our lives that witnesses in our spirits, to us and those around us that we are newborns of Christ Jesus. This marks the beginning of our walk with Jesus Christ. Let us equate this to a new friendship; for every friendship to grow and thrive, we need to spend quality time over the phone , lunch dates, hang outs and the likes to understand our new friend’s personality, act according have “dope” conversations and perhaps enjoy the perks that comes with being friends with that person, if there are any.

Nonetheless, you may agree with me that the main focus of any friendship is to enjoy companionship, togetherness and the likes.

Therefore as a believer who wants to thrive and really enjoy Jesus, we should devote time to spend with Him.

Jesus came in flesh, walked the length and breadth of the whole earth to really understand the challenges that believers could face as humans. Hebrews 2:17-18. I admit that sometimes, we just may not feel like worshipping, we may not be able to open our mouths in prayer, we may be unmotivated and the likes….

But in the wisdom of God, He deviced a means for us to be divinely helped, to be supernaturally helped- The Holy Spirit.

But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

John 14:26

With the help of the Holy Spirit, walking with Jesus does not feel like a horrendous chore or task to be done. He makes walking with Jesus so beautiful, He personalizes, customizes the experience with the father, He makes it such a sweet sweet expereince.

Apostle Paul knew the importance of this sweet fellowship with Jesus Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit and therefore included it as a prayer, admonition to the Corinthians in his letter to them in II Corinthians 13

There may be three major categories of challenges I believe many believers may encounter as we walk with Jesus;

  • Motivation to Keep Walking with Jesus
  • Making/Taking the right decisions at different phases of life
  • And the pressure to want to make significant impact in our generation.

The truth is we cannot walk on the path of righteousness in our own strides without the help of the Holy Spirit who is God dwelling in us. He has given us the power of choice and we can decide to do it our way, end up in frustration or ask for His help all the way through it all.

And other times we tend to get carried away with physical activities in church or otherwise with the aim to spread the gospel and share the love of God which is fantastic! But we should not let these physical activities overshadow our personal relationship and fellowship with God.

The bible tells us a story about Martha and Mary who were sisters. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to what He taught while Martha busied herself with preparing food for Jesus Christ. Humanly analyzing this situation, we could say that Martha was the one who really loved Jesus and cared for Him and she did the most noble thing. But the bible described Martha’s activities as distractions. Luke 10: 38-39. This may be the case for many christians, we may be distracted

  • with a delay in answered prayers,
  • our choir practices
  • writing that next blog post
  • evangelism activities and so on…. while neglecting the sweet communion with the Holy Holy spirit.

Martha challenged Jesus Christ, in the hopes that He would tell Mary to go join her sister in preparation of food. But Jesus responded to her saying:

My Dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.

Luke 10:41-42

We can infer from this story that Jesus will rather have us spend our time learning at His feet. And we can do that with the help of the Holy Spirit.

To utilize the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to engage Him at every point in time from asking Him for help for the smallest things and to the biggest things.

Like when you have misplaced your keys or a peculiar leggings you want to wear and you can ask the Holy spirit to help you find it. He sure helps me find the little things I misplace around the house; now imagine if He can help with the seemingly trivial things why wouldn’t He help with the major things!

But Before you start to engage the Holy Spirit, He has to be present in your life, you have to ask Him to take the wheel of your life. The first step is to accept Jesus Christ into your life, you can say the prayers here.

As you welcome the Holy Spirit into your life, commit to engaging in a thriving & flourishing relationship with Him.

Read the Bible daily and ask the Holy Spirit to explain things you do not understand, ask Him to show you deep and secret things. ( this is a way of engaging the Holy Spirit).

Spend quality time worshipping God; this ushers the presence of God into your life and surroundings.

Also spend quality time listening & paying attention for direction, admonition, correction and so on from the Holy Spirit.

And on days or times when you just do not feel like going on, ask the Holy Spirit to help you or send help your way. You’d be surprised at how miraculously He’d come through for you.

As we engage the Holy Spirit through constant communion, we begin to understand and master the voice of God, the ways He speaks to us, guides us, helps, order our steps, comfort us and so on….

I pray that we meet with God daily and that we grow in our knowledge of Him in Jesus name.

Amen.
