Growing in God’s Wisdom

I believe that one of my first knowledge or recognition of the word – wisdom may trickle down to the story of King Solomon. The king had a blank check from the Lord to request anything in the world- I Kings 3:1-15. King Solomon asked the Lord for the wisdom to be able to govern the people committed into his care as subjects – I Kings 3:8-9.

Then this knowledge of the word wisdom began to evolve for me, I began to understand that there are different forms of wisdom. Evil wisdom, human wisdom, and good or Godly wisdom, of course, evil wisdom has its origin from the devil and Godly wisdom has its origin from the Lord. Then sometime last year, I began to understand that there are depths to wisdom and it really is up to us to either scratch the surface or go deeper with the Lord to access His wisdom in order to become all that He wants us to be.

And now in this season, I am reminded of pastor Christine Caine’s words in 2020 at the passion conference. She was about 52 years when she made the statement and I’d paraphrase her – “Every single day, I still ask God for His wisdom to do life every day”. This was a pointer and now a reminder for me that God’s wisdom should be accessed and asked for daily and for every aspect of our lives.

The bible tells us how our dear Jesus who is our role model grew in wisdom – Luke 2:52. Let us pause to think about it for a moment, let us imagine what growing in wisdom may look like. I think growing in wisdom could be like a young boy or girl growing in stature and height daily. As the growth happens, It may not be so visible but over time, the growth would be so evident for all to see the growth. In this same way, God wants us to grow in His wisdom.

If He did not want us to, He wouldn’t have shown us His perfect example Jesus who grew in wisdom and stature. The bible then goes on to tell us in James 1:5 to liberally ask for God’s wisdom whenever we recognize a deficiency of it. Although, in this context, Apostle James speaks about wisdom as it pertains to living our triumphant faith lives regardless of tribulations or temptations that we may be faced with here on earth. Still, wisdom is of necessity for us as Christians.

I also recognize and sense that God’s wisdom is like a secret ingredient to having an overcoming life. I mean, I was reading the story of the building of the tabernacle, the Ark of the covenant, and the Ark’s cover in Exodus. God had given Moses all the dimensions to build the tabernacle. Yet, God went the extra mile to pour His spirit of wisdom upon Bezalel who was appointed to lead the team of builders. Although, this man was a skilled craftsman- God started describing him to Moses as a man He had given great wisdom- Exodus 31:1-5. Could this be that as talented as Bezalel was, he couldn’t build the Lord’s tabernacle to taste without God’s wisdom?

Apparently, It looks like doing God’s work the way that He would want entails and requires so much wisdom as well, in all we do for His kingdom, we need His wisdom.

In conclusion, I am more than convinced that you and I are on earth to shine the light of Jesus everywhere that we go. Shining His light is multidimensional and multifaceted, it could be as simple as asking a little boy how his day is going or how we interact with our colleagues or friends and it could go as far as sharing the gospel of Jesus on a pulpit. Regardless of how we shine His light, we need God’s wisdom. God’s wisdom is a mystery, the hidden wisdom of God has been ordained before the world began for our glory- II Corinthians 2:7.

You see how scripture tells us that God’s wisdom is hidden and it is a mystery? It starts to be less mysterious the more we ask our good father for access. He has told us in James 1:5 that for as many of us that may lack His wisdom, we should ask all the way but on one condition, we should have unshakeable faith in Him alone. – James 1:6
