Blessed is Jael Amongst women – Judges 5:24

For the first time in my seven years of walking with Jesus and reading His word, earlier this week was the first time I paid attention to Jael’s character. Or better put, it was the first time it dawned on me, and I gave her flowers for her role in defeating Sisera, an oppressor. The first thing that caught my attention was Deborah’s eulogy for Jael -“Blessed amongst women is Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite”. What a beautiful name, I thought. Then I went ahead to find the answers to the question on my mind, “Why was this woman blessed amongst women?”

Blessed is she among women in tents. Sisera asked for water, and she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl. She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell dead.

Judges 5:25-27

For more context, I went back to read the previous chapter. And all I could picture and imagine of Jael was “a slay Queen”. A beautiful woman who slayed physically and knew how to slay spiritually.
