While we wait on God

My 365 days bible challenge is going well, the Lord is helping me.

I endeavor  to read 4 chapters daily, 3 from the old testament and 1 from the new testament. May God keep helping me,Amen.

Studying the book of II Samuel chapters 7, from the beginning, it occurred to me that David did not sit on the throne over Israel immediately he was anointed.

This was King David, after turmoils and wars, God finally gave him peace of mind to sit on the throne.

I have two lines of thought, I am not certain which to veer towards right now or it just could be a mix of the two. God knows it all. I think all the things that happened to David, God allowed so as to shape him, build him to be the man after God’s heart OR When David was announced the King of Israel, the devil got charged up determined to stop David from sitting on the throne. The devil is known and good at that, waging war against the children of God, the ones God has called out unto great purpose.

Like I said, I cannot particularly say which it is but all that happened to David built him, made him a “Made King’’

First things, we all know God has set us apart for greatness, just as he singled David among his brothers to rule Israel.

So while we wait for God’s promises to be established in our lives, what cue can we take from David’s life?

Serve! – David was a multi-talented  handsome young man, pride didn’t live within him. Right after he was anointed as King by Samuel, he went to serve King Saul in the palace. He played the harp for Saul, so the evil spirit tormenting him could give him rest – I Samuel 16:23.

Right after he utilized his valiance in the destruction of a giant who tormented the Israelite at that time.

We should not let the gifts God has given us to lay fallow, we should utilize them, serve God with them, serve man with them.

We need to fight– on his way to the throne fought; he fought the Philistines, the Amalekites. We may not have to fight physical wars. We wrestle against the devil and his cohorts and there are strategic means of fighting these wars, I wrote about it in this post.

Their aim is to steal God’s blessings from us or kill us before we start to enjoy God’s blessings or destroy us completely. Hence we need to fight to establish these promises and blessings God has given us.

Be nice to even our enemies & Allow God fight for us- All of sudden the man who loved him a lot (I Samuel 16:22), became his enemy( I Samuel 19:1). Different occasions David had the opportunity to take Saul’s life but he left the situation in God’s hands. I Samuel 24:15, I Samuel 26:22-24

The knowledge of an enemy doesn’t mean we should be hostile. Be nice to them but pray against the wicked powers backing them up. May God give us wisdom in Jesus name.

Be courageous– I believe this package comes with the spirit of the Lord. As David was anointed, the spirit of the Lord came upon him. Going forward, courage was something he didn’t lack. He was courageous to face any form of challenge that came his way. We should ask God to fill us with His spirit as well as the spirit of boldness and courage.

Yet again, worship God-I feel like i have talked a lot about this in the past few weeks. But we just cannot worship God enough, David knew this and worshiped God with all he had, even in the cave when he hid from his enemies. He built altars in honor of God’s name.

May the Lord settle us and give us peace of mind to enjoy his promises for our lives in Jesus name.
