My Pastor shared the testimony of a member of my church who had died but by the power of God, came back to life. My Pastor told us that when the man came back to life, he could not remember anything, not his wife, her name nor his children. The only things he could remember were the scriptures that he had memorized, scriptures he had fed his spirit man. I remembered this testimony during the week as I read Luke 10:42 – Mary, Martha’s sister discovered one thing that she should be concerned about and that one thing was going to remain with her forever
There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her –
Luke 10:42.
What really stood out for me in this verse this past week is the fact that God’s word will remain with her forever, it will never be taken away. In the same light, I am thinking to myself so will it be for us; as much of God’s word that we feast on, as much of His word that we allow to take residence in our spirits will remain with us forever. The words of the Lord that Mary had feasted on at Jesus’ feet over 2000 years ago will remain with her forever. When we all meet in heaven, she would still have those words in her bosom because God’s word never dies. Scripture tells us that every single thing will pass away but God’s word will remain forever! 1 Peter 1:25.
Let us paint Mary and Martha’s story together in Luke 10:38-41. shall we? Jesus was in town and He passed by the home of Martha who happened to have a sister, Mary. Jesus decided to stop by to say hello and probably bless the home of His friends as He passed by. Martha was so consumed with making preparations to ensure Jesus Christ was comfortable and probably have a sumptuous meal, which makes absolute human sense. But Mary, on the other hand sat in awe at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him with astonished eyes, listening carefully to every single word that He said and most likely asked Him a tons of questions. I have imagined having Jesus over at my place for dinner or when I see Him in heaven, the amount of questions I would ask Him ehn! or perhaps I’d just be awestruck and stare at His shiny glory forever.
Pondering on this verse, week long is a reminder for me that as much as it is great to serve God in His vineyard! It is even greater to be submerged to the brim with His word. I should not be so consumed with service like Martha, forgetting the most important thing, to be fed with the word of the Lord. Because even the most anointed service to the Lord will pass away, it will be taken from us, all that will be left with our spirit man or in our spirit man is the word of the Lord we fed it with while on earth.
And more so, the word of God richly dwelling inside our spirits would give our spirt man form; it will determine if he grows or remains stunted.
I pray that as we serve God in truth and spirit, we double or even triple our feast on His word in the name of Jesus.
