On Thursday morning as I studied the bible texts from my devotional, a sentence in Isaiah 57:17 really stood out to me.
In Isaiah 57 as prophet Isaiah shares the things God had revealed to him about different kinds of people and their fate, in verse 17, he goes on to describe God as high, lofty and the one who lives in eternity. As much as I pondered on this scripture, I began to imagine what eternity could feel like or be like. As much as I did, my mind went into spirals of endless tunnels. Eternity is not fully comprehensible to the human mind but it definitely exists and God lives there.
If I tried to sum up the lifetimes of everyone that has ever lived on earth and those that would ever live I doubt that it would ever come close to eternity.
Yet my God lives in eternity! Like He lives in forever
Now let me highlight the light that was shed on this scripture for me:
Isaiah’s revelation of God:
When Isaiah said he saw the Lord In Isaiah 6:1, it was not a 5minutes seeing. It was a kind of seeing that probably lasted his lifetime. Because how can a mortal man who is bound by time describe God as the one who lives in eternity. Through out scripture, I have seen our fathers and mothers of faith describe God with different adjectives and names but papa Isaiah chose to describe God as he did in Isaiah 57:15. He definitely saw something, or should I say God revealed to him that depth of Himself.
And with that revelation of God that the prophet caught, he gained some more insight about God. God told him the traits of the kinds of souls that live in eternity with Him.
I strongly believe that a personal revelation of who God is to us makes our walk with Him unique and gives us great insight about our walk with Him. And an encounter with Him is definitely a game changer, just like prophet Isaiah- it changed the whole trajectory of his ministry and walk with God.
I pray we receive the grace to spend time with God that we may grow in His knowledge and perhaps have encounters with Him in Jesus name.
We Have Access to God’s Eternal Nature:
My text from last week’s post came to mind as well- John 3:16. For God so loved us that He gave us His only begotten son as a sacrifice so that we can have access to live in eternity with Him. Taking it right back to the first man God created; God made him in His image. God shared His eternal life with man and it was His plan for man to live forever, dominating the earth. But sin found its way into humanity and caused the rift between us and living eternally.
But God, in His infinite mercies and boundless love for us, gave us a way for humanity to access eternity with Him and the way is Jesus Christ.
The nature of souls that live with an eternal God:
God said to prophet Isaiah in the same verse that , He lives in the high and holy place with the those whose spirits are contrite and humble. This is a pointer to why Lucifer, now known as the devil could not remain in eternity with the Lord, pride was found in him because of his wisdom and beauty Ezekiel 28:12-19. While Jesus Christ on the other hand, despite His divine privileges’, humbled Himself and took the form of a man and went to the cross for humanity.
Jesus Christ came to show us the way to live in eternity with God through lowliness and humility which I believe are keys to living in eternity with God just as He has told us in Isaiah 57:15. Nobody with pride inside of him will be able to live forever with God.
When it comes to eternal life, there are two options : eternal suffering with the devil or eternal rejoicing with God. I sure want to live eternally with God and I hope you do as well.
Therefore to live eternally with God means to get rid of pride in our hearts and lives. And the one way to do so is to learn from the master of humility Jesus Christ
