How David became the man after God’s Heart

Apostle Paul led by the Holy Spirit spoke to people at Antioch about the ways God dealt with His children. God was happy to lead them from bondage into freedom. God was delighted to lead them through the journeys of their lives from generation to generation. He blessed them, cared for them and treated them like every loving father would treat His children. Years after years, this was the dynamics of their relationship; it was more or less a relationship where God showered them with all the love in the world. Unknown to them God was seeking for a man or woman who was interested in a two way relationship with Him. God was interested in finding a man or woman who was interested in learning about Him, communicating with Him and also returning the love that He showered on them.Only if there were men or women amongst the population who cared enough to cultivate a relationship with the Lord……

Not until about 500 years later and generations after did God find a man amongst His children who touched the core of His heart. God found a man and gave this testimony about him, “I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who would do everything I want him to do – Acts 13:22. How elated my God must have been to finally find a man who longed and pursued a solid relationship with Him. David, the son of Jesse was one who actively pursued after God with all of his heart. And He didn’t just stop at knowing God’s mind, he also ensured that he did the things that made God’s heart leap for joy.

All through the books of prophet Samuel, we can see so many times when David asked God for his opinions. A great example is when he was newly sworn in as king of Judah. It made so much sense for him to move into a house or the palace in Judah but David wouldn’t do that. He took time out to find out God’s opinion about moving into Judah. Lord, can I move to Judah, he asked? The Lord said he could. Then David even asked where in Judah he could move into. And the Lord told Him Hebron – II Samuel 2:1-2. This is an absolute pointer to the fact that our living God speaks and He is always happy to provide us with guidance as long and as much as we ask Him.

Our dear Father in heaven is the same yesterday, today, and forever! This means that the God who gave David listening ears and interacted with David back in the day is still the same God today. And He still seeks for men and women after His heart. Will you be that man or woman? To be honest, God has nothing to lose if you and I decide to be by ourselves without cultivating a solid relationship with Him. But we have so much to lose when we decide to do life by ourselves without investing in a solid relationship with Him. The Israelites died unfulfilled lives, King Saul lost his throne and kingdom because they refused to be intentional about their relationships with the Lord.

The Lord is saying to you today, “Draw near to me, and I will draw even nearer to you” “Stop lip-syncing my worship, worship me from the depths of your heart”.
