The Cost of not knowing God.

My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me. Since you priests refuse to know me, I refuse to recognize you as my priests.Since you have forgotten the laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.

– Hosea 4:6

The book of Hosea reveals to us the things God said about His children to prophet Hosea during a time period. When we read through the chapters of this book, we would see that God spoke to prophet Hosea from a place of concern & disapproval towards His children’s behaviours. The Israelites could not be bothered about seeking God nonetheless please Him in all their ways. They’d rather have nice times, sunken in adultery & idolatry, drunken with the blood of innocent lives, while they broke their vows and stole from one another – Hosea 4:2. And because of their ignorance and failure to know God, they laboured, walked and lived in a cursed land under closed heavens. God is a Holy God and He just cannot stand neither can He behold sin. Thank God for Jesus Christ who now gives us access to God despite our sinful nature. While God’s mercies are new every morning,we should not indulge in sin because there is a lot more to sin than we could comprehend with our bare eyes or mere intellect. Sin has deep roots and once as little as a minute seed is planted, it takes roots and causes havoc in the land where it has been planted.

Moreso, I find it interesting that these descriptions from the pages of chapters in Hosea are not so hard to imagine neither are they events that our present world is void of. I honestly wish that these events were unrelatable and were only reference points for when the world was once like that.

My hope is in the new Jerusalem filled with healing void of curses & darkness in Jesus name – Revelation 22:1-2

The reason for all the disarray that the Israelites had in their land and the chaos we have in the world today is because of our ignorance; our lack of understanding & knowledge of God. God is a great God, a great King above other gods; He has depths and dimensions which makes knowing Him a life long commitment and process. We just cannot stop at knowing Him after a day or two.

Imagine if Moses had stopped communing with God once the Israelites had gained their freedom from bondage in Egypt, how on earth would he have led them through the red sea? God created everything that we see and utilize here on earth, so who else if not Him would be able to guide us on how to thrive in a world that He made!

But sadly, many of the population of the world created by God fail to acknowledge Him nonetheless endeavour to know who He really is. While other people only seek Him when they need to get things from His hands.

I believe that ignorance is synonymous to darkness: for as many as are ignorant and are in the dark about the love of Christ so does the devil have a field day. Ignorance is such an expensive side to be on the spectrum of life, being ignorant of the vices of the devil and the love of God could robb one of a blissful life here on earth and even worse off of eternal life in heaven.

Only if Eve knew how crafty the devil is and the length he would go just to snatch one from God’s presence, she probably would have guarded her mind and territory judiciously. Only if Ananias & Sapphira had really given themselves to knowing God for themselves, they would have told the absolute truth and avoided dying untimely – Acts 5:1-11.

But for as many as draw near to the light of the world, Jesus Christ so shall their lives be illuminated and have everlasting life – John 8:12, John 3:16. Apostle Paul is an example of one who saw the light of Jesus and gave Himself to knowing God for himself, his life was transformed inside out and he wrote thirteen out of the thirty-nine books of the New Testament bible that we read today.

I am beginning to understand that there are so many mysteries and even plain things that God wants us to stay abreast about as we live in this world. As He reveals them to us, they would help us thrive while fulfilling God’s purpose.

Therefore, I write to you today to let you know that although the world may be in a despicable state, It does not please God to see His people being destroyed. God sent His only begotten son to

  • Bring us out of darkness & Ignorance
  • To save us
  • And give us life in abundance

Moreso, you should know that Jesus Christ already paid the humongous price for ignorance. All you need do is to cash the check & utilize it judiciously by

I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices.I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.

Hosea 6:6

Remember that you can only see clearly and navigate through a dark room for as long as the lights are switched on in that room. The same way we can only see clearly and navigate this world filled with darkness as long as we are plugged and in sync with the light of the world, Jesus Christ.

May we live our lives filled with God’s wisdom and knowledge in Jesus name.
