To be back home, in the house of my God.

In the presence of God, there is fullness of joy. Psalm 16:11

I have heard lead singers and worshippers use this phrase to guide the congregation into a state or place of worship.

Preachers have also referenced this bible verse to nudge or lead the congregation to a place of joy in the house of God.

Before I became serious with my relationship with God, I always thought the presence of God was the church building with the congregation in it. I always thought nobody was allowed to enter the church unhappy and go back home unhappy. You just had to take some of the joy home or allow the overflow of joy in the house rub of on you.

Or allow the message prepared and preached minister to you and go back home rejoicing and let it sustain you all week.

But these above listed doesn’t sum the presence of God. It does no justice in the description of the presence of God.

The presence of  God can be described as having uninterrupted communication with God. It could be a deep connection with the spirit of God, being in sync with the heavens.

Being in God’s presence is dying completely to self and letting God.

Staying in His presence is allowing God to lead us all the way in all our actions.

King David was an example of one who constantly worked and walked in the presence of God, He craved for the presence of God constantly. He was a happy man.

  • David was loyal to serving God with his time, skills and everything that he had. He served the purpose of God whilst he lived out his life, he was even referenced many generations after he lived. Act 13:36

  • David was always repentant whenever he went against God’s plans or wishes for his life. Psalm51:9

  • David always praised God, he was unapologetic about his worship to God. In the worship of His children, God lives and communicates with them. Psalm 22:3

  • David had a working and growing relationship with God, he sought to please God in all his ways. God boasted of David, saying He was a man His heart was so pleased with because he did everything he wanted him to do. Act 13:22

  • David was fearless and so confident in his God, this is evidence that David was in constant sync with God, he was deliberately staying in God’s presence. Psalm 27:1 Psalm 23:4

Staying in God’s presence for me is the best thing anybody can and should experience. Are you in God’s presence? Are you making deliberate efforts to stay there?

We can learn from a great king,  David.

I pray we all remain in God’s presence until He calls home forever.

Amen
