Set a fire down in my soul, that I cannot contain, that I cannot control. I want more of you God, I want more of you God.
Set a fire || Jesus Culture
The lyrics to a song titled set a fire is one that I sing ever so passionately always and always. As it came up on my queued playlist this week, something occurred to me. Every time I listen and sing it out loud, all I am thinking of is to know Jesus more, for Him to pour more of Him inside of me, to garner more depth with Him. It did not exactly register in my mind that the more of Jesus that I know, the more of His needs and wants I become aware of. And the more aware of the things that break His heart, the more I really just want to make Him happy by meeting His needs. This occurred to me this week as I listened to the song and I put on my WhatsApp status that I really was not ready for the prayers I was singing – Set a fire down in my soul, that I cannot contain, that I cannot control. I want more of you God, I want more of you God. All I was probably preparing for was just to behold the beauty and wonders of my Jesus. Although I was not ready, I love every bit of it. I love the privilege to know the things that break His heart, I love the privilege to be able to serve Him while I make His heart glad. Not exactly the easiest things to do but He is always ready to help me out.
It is amazing to know that God does not play favorites in these things; He is ready to set your hearts on fire for the things that make Him happy. God has so many things to be done here on earth which is covered in immerse darkness. He needs people like myself and you to be the light and salt of the earth where you occupy. Only if we gave ourselves to learning about the needs of our Lord.
Many times, we (myself included) complain about all the things that are wrong with the world, we push blames on people, politicians, and perhaps circumstances. Perhaps all these things are to blame for all the wrongs in the world, but today, I am writing to ask you, “what resource(s) do you have tied down?” that could be used to fix parts and portions of the world. What do you have tied down that could be used by the Lord to shine His light here on earth? Take a moment right now to think deeply about it.
On the day Jesus was about to make His triumphant entry into Jerusalem, He pointed out that there was a colt tied down that had never been used before. I wonder why and how a colt stayed there unused. There may be a thousand and one reasons why it was tied down unused but the fact remains that it was unused until Jesus sent His disciples to go untie it for His use. – Luke 19:28-34
Now that you have taken a moment to think through the resources in your possession, do you have any or all of them unused just like the colt described in Luke 19? It may have remained tied down for so many reasons but today the Lord is saying to you to untie it, why? Because He has the need for it – Luke 19:32.
The Lord has called us to a life of relationship and partnership with Him; the more we spend time with Him, the more He points us to the ills and wrongs in the world that He would love for us to deal with. Imagine one billion friends of God, being pointed to do one billion things at the same time all over the world. How beautiful and lit the world would be!
I will close up this post by reminding us of God’s word in Ephesians 2:10 which says that we are created by God through Christ Jesus to Join Him in the work that He does, the good work that He has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing! – MSG translation. For Moses, it was his rod in his hand, for David, it was his stones in his hands, for Noah, it was the wood and nails in his hand, for apostle Paul it was his pen and paper in his hands, for Esther it was her mouth and wisdom of God inside of her, for Deborah it was God’s word bubbling inside of her. At one point in the lives of these men and women they had to untie these resources in their hands to lit up the world around them. So again, untie it, for the Lord has need of it.
To you my dear who may be reading this and perhaps you are new to all these Jesus talks, He loves you so much and He cannot wait for you to partner with Him to shine His light in this cold dark world. I bet that you would love to be part of the good things happening in this world. The only way to be part of the good citizens, doing good always is to become friends with Jesus, is to be led by Him always. Therefore, if you would like to do so today, say this after me:
Dear Jesus, thank you for all the great plans you have for the world
Thank you for all the great plans you intend to do for the world through me.
I am so sorry I have been sleeping on it, forgive me Lord.
I confess all my sins to you today, forgive me.
Wash me clean in your blood, help me to live a brand new life for your glory.
Help me to be led by you to do good always
in Jesus name I pray,
Amen.
