Jesus Christ had a mandate to fulfill here on earth. He came to be the sacrificial lamb for the atonement of our sins. He came so through the fulfillment of His purpose we all can accomplish our purpose on earth, God’s plans for our lives.
Jesus came to break the barrier between God and man, He came to bridge the gap between God and man.
The fulfillment of Jesus’ purpose required a process;every achievement of a purpose needs a process, not usually easy though.
“And He said to them, the sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch(vigil) with me” – Mark 14:34
This was Jesus expressing exactly how He felt to His friends, Peter,James and John.
There are a list of things that struck me as I read this chapter of the Bible about a week ago.
There sure will be struggle in your victory process
Jesus is every Christian’s role model, we all should strive to be like Him, perfect accomplishing the things God has put in our care to achieve or tend to. Just like Him, we all have purpose, a destiny to accomplish. While we are at it, we would face strife, difficult situations. There is no running from it but with God we would overcome.
Jesus went through it, He overcame. He rose from the dead on the third day, went to heaven was seated at God’s right hand.
“These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 ASV
Discouragement,anguish will come-deal with it
In that moment when I was reading that verse, I put myself in Jesus’ shoes well I tried to imagine the kind of pain He must have felt. Beaten, lashed, bruised, he took nails and died for people who didn’t love Him, who could not be bothered about Him. Sigh
The thought of it overwhelmed Him, I believe and He fell into deep distress and sorrow. He did two things
a) He called three of His friends to come pray with Him
b) He went to be by Himself, threw Himself on the floor and prayed to His father. Prayer is the only resort in the moment of exhaustion ladies and gentle men.
So yeah! It’s really important you have a couple of friends you can pray with, pray with you, pray for you & encourage you.
Pray God’s will, it’s the best.
Jesus’ distress was alot, He prayed for the cup to pass Him, He asked God to take away the suffering scene from the process of His end goal.Nevertheless,He prayed for God’s will.
God knows it all and knows what’s best for us, praying according to God’s will and purpose for our lives is really necessary & the best kind of prayerf.
There is strength in the place of prayer
“An angel of the Lord appeared to Him and strengthened Him” Luke 22:43.
This happened right after Jesus had prayed. We all need strength to glory in tribulations. It’s in the place of prayer God releases strength through His angels to those working in accordance to His will.
Jesus got arrested shortly after, He was trialed and crucified.
In His death, the kingdom of darkness was thrown into turmoil. He rose and conquered death. In His resurrection we have life in abundance.
