May We never lose our wonder (Short Story of People who forget)

We were a really happy family,

a happy community who played & prayed together.

We shared everything that we had,

clothes, food, money, vision, ambition and so on.

I remeber how often we’d go to the temple

and just stand in awe of God’s wonders.

We’d be there and just remenisce on how He saved us from a famine

that ravaged the whole world.

We blessed His name everyday for His infinite wisdom,

by which He sent our very own Joseph.

Although as a slave, became a prime minister.

And with the wisdom of God upon His life, He made provisions for us.

Many years passed & we enjoyed God’s prescence,

we basked in His abundance.

I guess it is easier to bask in God’s presence when there is abundance.

We remained in awe of God’s wonders till a new King came,

then we began to forget.

We began to forget the good God who saved us from a famine.

Can you blame us though!

The king’s lashes flogged God’s lovingkindness out of our minds & heart.

All we began to see was a wicked God,

who brought His children so far, only to leave them in the hands of a callous king.

We began to lose our wonder,

began to cry and make derogatory statements at our God.

But in His infinite mercies, He heard our cry.

Yet again, in His infinite wisdom devised an un-forgetful means for us

to claim deliverance.

You know one of the spectacular things He did for us on that journey of deliverance?

He divided the gigantic red sea into two!!

How wondrous can the power of God be!

He divided the sea into two,

allowed us in our thousands to pass through.

It took us the whole night to pass through the divide of the red sea.

As we passed through that sea, our slave masters chased after us.

They came so close behind us,

we became so freightened that they may catch up with us.

But God must have enlongated their journey,

because as close as they seemed to have been,

they did not reach us until we had completely crossed over.

As soon as they got into the divide, God closed the red sea!

Isn’t this God amazing!!!

Then again we began to bask in the glorious prescence of our father.

We stood, rolled and screamed in awe of our great God.

Until we became hungry & began to crave food.

We began to forget until we forgot completely how great our God is.

We thought to ourselves,

that God saved us to kill us in the wilderness.

How shallow we were in thinking!!!

How shallow of us to think that God went through all that length to save us

only for Him to allow mere hunger to kill us.

We forgot so quickly that He had saved us from hunger in the past.

We began to grumble yet again & called our father names He is not.

How pathetic we were!

God yet again, provided food for us!

He opened the heavens & poured down from heaven

just for us!

Then we went back to beholding the wonders of God.

We went back to blessing His Holy name,

praising Him for His wonders in our lives.

You would think that after seeing these wonders from God,

we would always remain grateful, filled with faith

and believe in the most high God.

Sadly, that was not the case for us.

We built a reputation of forgetfulness,

we always chose to forget the things God did for us.

We were always fast to fidget, mumble, grumble, grumble

at the slightest challenge we faced.

Unknown to us, this selective forgetful nature of ours

provoked God & limited Him – Psalm 78:41

Our forgetfulness & quick switch made God angry,

it also limited His move in our midst.

He wasn’t very much happy with us to say the least.

But there was a king from our lineage,

who emerged sometime down the line.

His name was David.

Although He encountered countless challenges,

He never behaved like us.

His countenance, demeanor was always filled with

thanksgiving towards the Lord.

We could learn from Him,

we could learn how he was able to never lose sight of the wonders of God.- Psalm 77:11

He always meditated on the good works of God

and He talked about them always.

We have the baton now to continue the race.

We should never lose the wonder of the Cross,

we should never lose the wonder of our salvation,

we should never lose the wonder of living in Christ

we should never lose the wonder of the hope of eternal life with Christ.

These things are wonders of God, to say the least.

Like king David, let us meditate on these wonders of God

and speak about them always.

May we never lose our wonder
May we never lose our wonder
Wide eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
